Telecoms optimising your energy consumption!

Did you know that your telecoms provider can help keep tabs on your utilities consumption?

As part of its visionary T-city project, Deutsche Telekom has teamed up with local utility provider TW in Friedrichshafen for the development of a Smart Metering System. Currently, Deutsche Telekom's state-of-the-art information and communication technologies make it possible for 700 households of the 'model city for the network society' to pilot test these new consumer-friendly measuring devices.

The Smart Meters enable consumers to view their gas, water and electricity use via a personalised internet-portal in almost real-time, giving them the power to directly influence their consumption levels. The Smart Metering System helps consumers to use electricity, gas and water more efficiently, save costs and to ultimately minimise their carbon footprint.

In Hungary, Magyar Telekom has kick-started the second T-city project which is looking at both household and business consumption.
