Going Green in the Netherlands
06/10/2009
KPN has set itself the objective of becoming carbon neutral by 2020. To achieve this feat, it will reduce the electricity used overall by its networks, as well as increase its "green" electricity usage. KPN purchases green power exclusively from Dutch power stations. The green portion of the company's electricity consumption rose from 15% in 2008 to 38% in 2009. By 2011, KPN intends for 100% of the electricity consumed to be green.
In addition, as one of 20 major Dutch company members of the Wind on Sea initiative, and together with the WWF, KPN has called on the Netherlands government to invest more in large offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
