Bridging the digital divide

25/11/2009

Since 2007, Turk Telekom has set itself the challenge of improving digital literacy of the Turkish population living in the most remote regions of Turkey. The first step has been to launch 'Internet Houses' in every single one of Turkey's 720 provincial centres.

This impressive endeavour is not only tied to the aim of installing 10 to 20 computers in each of the internet houses but to also employ experts to help people making the most of the opportunities that new information and communication technologies can provide them with.

By the middle of 2008, the number of internet houses established had grown to 831 and inspired thousands of Turkish citizens to become more active members of the information society.
