About the Debate

At the event on 9 December 2009, the real-time link to the research station in Antarctica and to the Solar Impulse plane will be followed by a roundtable debate featuring notable environment and ICT leaders. Topics likely to be discussed include information technology's impact on climate change, exploration of the environmental benefits of New Generation Networks, debate over investment burdens in new network development, and impending telecoms industry changes.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Jo Leinen, Member of the European Parliament, Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety
  • Fabio Colasanti, European Commission Director General for Information Society and Media
  • Dennis Pamlin, Consultant on ICT issues for WWF, and Senior Associate at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). One of Mr Pamlin's missions is to help bridge the gap between ICT experts and the policy makers in both politics and business.
  • Colum Joyce, Director, IMR World. Mr Joyce is an expert in e-business strategies.
  • Danilo Riva, Telecom Italia, Chairman of ETNO Sustainability Working Group
